TubeCap

The TubeCap is a high-voltage film capacitor that was developed from the ground up as a technically superior alternative to high-voltage electrolytic capacitors. It is manufactured using latest-generation metallized polypropylene film. This film is extremely thin; thanks to a special coating, its self-healing properties are particularly pronounced. As a result, the TubeCap achieves very high voltage handling combined with a compact design.

The decisive difference compared to classic high-voltage electrolytics lies in the “speed”, i.e. the timing behavior: as a film capacitor, the TubeCap inherently leaves electrolytic capacitors behind. ESR and ESL are at a level that an electrolytic capacitor cannot reach in this combination of residual resistance and residual inductance. This is exactly what makes it ideal, in hi-fi terms, for tube amplifiers, where the high voltage should not only be stable but also quickly available and cleanly present at the amplifier stage.

Technical properties

Electrical properties

Latest-generation metallized polypropylene film

Extremely thin film as the basis for high performance with compact dimensions.

Particularly pronounced self-healing

A special film coating enhances the self-healing properties – supporting operational reliability and voltage handling.

Very high voltage handling with small dimensions

High voltage handling without the typical size disadvantages of classic high-voltage solutions.

Superior “speed” compared to electrolytics (ESR/ESL)

Very low ESR and very low residual inductance mean fast energy delivery and a supply behavior that classic electrolytic capacitors cannot achieve.

No polarity / no mounting orientation

As a film capacitor, the TubeCap has no polarity and therefore no prescribed mounting orientation.

Macro-microphony

Stable supply without “pumping” under load

Thanks to its fast, low-impedance operation, the high-voltage supply remains composed and stable even during dynamic peaks.

Micro-microphony

A calmer current path during fast signal events

Low residual inductance and low ESR keep the supply stable even under fast current demands and free of fine modulation artifacts.

Sound character

In tube amplifiers, the TubeCap reveals itself as composure of the high voltage: impulses arrive cleanly, the dynamics remain unrestrained, and the sound image stays stable – even when the circuit is pushed hard. Thanks to the very fast energy delivery, the reproduction gains precision and clarity, without the supply “giving way” or transients being smeared.

Typical applications

  • Tube amplifier power supplies (high-voltage supply, filtering, reserves)
  • Innovative and demanding tube designs where high voltage handling and a compact design are required at the same time
  • Applications where a technically superior alternative to high-voltage electrolytic capacitors is desired

Note on installation

Since the TubeCap is a film capacitor, it has no polarity and therefore – unlike electrolytic capacitors – no prescribed mounting orientation.
