MCoil VNCU • Feron Zero-Ohm Copper Foil Paper

The MCoil VNCU is our Feron zero-ohm inductor with a copper-foil conductor and paper-based insulator – minimum RDC with ultimate control. The core size has a decisive influence on RDC and power handling. Our zero-ohm inductors are designed so that a power handling of at least 300 watts is guaranteed; with larger cores or lower inductance values this power handling is considerably higher.

Thanks to the combination of an E-core and I-core with a defined air gap, it achieves extremely low RDC values at high inductance while remaining exceptionally composed under high currents. Together with the paper, the copper foil forms an extremely stable winding assembly that reduces winding vibrations and thus macro-microphony to a minimum and keeps the component mechanically “silent” even under load.

As a result, the reproduction gains calm, contour and fine dynamics, while bass impulses remain maximally taut and controlled. Typically mounted in the cabinet, the MCoil VNCU is the uncompromising choice when minimum RDC, maximum power handling and minimal macro-microphony are required.

Mounting note

Zero-ohm inductors are designed for high currents and extremely low RDC, which entails a certain weight. They should therefore be mounted in the cabinet in a mechanically stable manner. Please keep sufficient distance from other inductors and align the coil axes at 90° to one another wherever possible to avoid magnetic coupling. Metallic surfaces (especially steel) and sensitive signal paths should not be routed in the immediate vicinity.

Checklist (developer/installation)

  • Cabinet mounting, fasten mechanically securely (not “free-floating”)
  • Choose a generous distance from other inductors
  • Align the coil axes at 90° to one another wherever possible
  • No steel sheets/metal plates directly beneath or beside the inductor
  • Keep sensitive wiring/signal paths (especially tweeter/input) at a distance
  • Decouple mechanically if necessary (elastic pad/mounting)
  • Ensure air circulation at the mounting location and watch for heat build-up
