Zero-Ohm Core

The zero-ohm coil is the most consistent Feron core shape. It uses E and I cores together — so most Feron is in the magnetic circuit. In addition, it has a defined air gap, which prevents the core from reaching saturation, even in small designs, and thus guarantees high load capacity. This combination is the key: maximum core effect with sufficient level reserves. The larger designs are not only suitable for parties but also PA.

Due to the maximum of Feron in the magnetic circuit, the zero-ohm coil achieves extremely low ohmic resistances (RDC) with comparable inductance, which are otherwise impossible to achieve. That is exactly its purpose: Where the series resistance of the coil would be the dominant limiting factor, the zero-ohm design sets the resistance to a minimum. In high-current applications, this is a massive gain in efficiency and control — and it immediately changes the behavior of the loudspeaker system because the electrical attenuation of the amplifier has a maximum effect.

Like the E-core coil, the zero-ohm coil is typically attached to the housing and not mounted on the printed circuit board. The size, weight and the importance of mechanical fixation clearly speak for it. In addition, the field guidance and the arrangement with other components in the switch can be consistently designed in this way.

Area of use

Zero-ohm is the design for uncompromising applications in which the RDC must be as low as possible — and at the same time as high inductance. Maximum magnetic circuit, minimal resistance.
