Round Wire Coils

Principle: a solid round wire is built up as a winding.

Strengths

• Proven, easily calculable construction
• Good packing density, many inductance values practicable

Typical Limitations

• Without fixation, the winding can move mechanically under load
• Depending on the design, frequency-dependent additional losses (skin effect) can carry more weight

Classification

Round wire is the solid standard. In high-quality crossovers, it becomes considerably better as soon as the winding is consistently calmed mechanically – here, baked varnish or resin soaking is a clear quality lever.
