Metallized Film

Metallized film capacitors consist of a thin plastic film onto which a wafer-thin metal layer is vapor-deposited. The film takes on the function of the dielectric, while the metal layer forms the electrode. Using precision winding machines, these layers are processed into an exactly defined capacitor winding – the basis for reproducible electrical values and controlled mechanical behavior.

A key advantage of this technology is the self-healing effect: if a local breakdown occurs in the dielectric, the metal layer evaporates at the affected spot. The affected area is thus electrically isolated and the capacitor remains functional – a decisive contribution to reliability and long service life.

When polypropylene is used as the film material, the result is particularly low dielectric losses and excellent long-term stability. Metallized polypropylene capacitors are therefore the preferred choice in high-quality audio applications – especially when neutral signal transmission, fast transients and a calm, uncolored sound picture are required.

Beyond the basic construction, we optimize our capacitors in numerous sonically relevant details. These include carefully selected film materials, an extra-thick metallization for particularly high conductivity and – depending on the series – targeted measures from our toolbox of the three pillars: macro-microphonic calming of the winding, micro-microphonic optimization of materials and interfaces, and fine-tuning of the electrical parameters. This allows the finest sonic nuances to be transmitted precisely – even in the most demanding audiophile and studio applications.
