Foil coils with resin-soaked paper as the insulator use a flat, dimensionally stable conductor made of (Angelique) copper, silver or (Angelique) silver-gold and remain uncompromisingly free of core-related effects. Contrary to what one might expect, the unwanted capacitive component of this design is low and uncritical in practice. Electrically, this allows very low RDC values at high inductance and high current capability – particularly attractive in the bass and lower midrange. The decisive advantage lies in the further increased mechanical stability: the resin-soaked paper permanently binds the layers, fills remaining voids and turns the winding into an extremely solid unit. This design is therefore mechanically even calmer than a foil winding with a polypropylene insulator and clearly superior to impregnated round-wire coils. From this structural rigidity the sonic advantage follows directly: macro-microphony is reduced to a minimum, because the winding does not couple back into the music signal inductively as a mechanically co-vibrating source of interference. The coil remains mechanically silent even at high currents. This is particularly relevant in the bass and lower midrange, where a great deal of energy is converted. The gain shows itself as more calm in the sound picture. Transients appear clearer and more defined. Fine dynamic details are masked less. The stage appears more stable, because less “parasitic movement” is modulated into the reproduction. The result is maximum calm, the finest resolution and exceptionally commanding dynamics, especially in the bass and lower midrange.
