Silver/Gold Foil Coils (SGFC)

Silver/gold foil coils with polypropylene insulation are air-core coils and thus uncompromisingly free of core-related effects – they remain fully linear, even at high levels. The conductor is a flat, dimensionally stable silver/gold foil whose turns and layers lie tightly and continuously on top of one another. This creates an extremely compact, mechanically very calm winding assembly that significantly reduces macro-microphony: the winding barely moves under load and does not couple back into the music signal inductively as a mechanically co-vibrating source of interference. At the same time – contrary to what intuition might suggest – the unwanted capacitive component of this design is lower than that of round-wire coils. Electrically, this allows very low R_DC values at high inductance and high current-handling capability, which supports control and efficiency especially in the bass and lower midrange.

Added to this are the material-specific micro-microphonic properties of the silver/gold alloy: the transparency and clarity of silver are retained, yet the gold content makes the sound more colorful and musically more complete. With 99 % silver and 1 % gold, there is a noticeable gain in tonal colors without transparency and contour losing any precision. Voices and acoustic instruments appear more organically embedded, overtones stand more stably in the room, and the sound picture remains both highly resolved and composed. The result is the “silent” control of a foil air-core coil combined with high transparency and a considerably expanded richness of tonal colors – even at high levels and with powerful bass impulses.
