Silver Foil Coils (SFC)

Silver foil coils with polypropylene insulation are air-core coils and thus uncompromisingly free of core-related effects – they remain fully linear, even at high levels. The conductor is a flat, dimensionally stable silver foil whose layers lie tightly and continuously on top of one another. This creates an extremely compact, mechanically very calm winding assembly that significantly reduces macro-microphony: the winding barely moves under load and does not couple back into the music signal inductively as a mechanically co-vibrating source of interference. At the same time – contrary to what intuition might suggest – the unwanted capacitive component of this design is lower than that of round-wire coils. Electrically, this allows very low R_DC values at high inductance and high current capability, which supports control and efficiency especially in the bass and lower midrange.

Added to this are the material-specific micro-microphonic properties of silver: silver carries the signal with particular precision in every detail and sounds more transparent and clearer in reproduction than copper. Put simply, the typically larger grain sizes of silver favor lower electron scattering at the grain boundaries and thus a calmer, more uniform current flow. The result is a combination of the “silent” mechanical control of the foil winding and the very high resolution of the conductor material. Musically, this manifests as an orderly, transparent sound picture with a stable stage, clear contours and the finest texture – even when high levels and dynamic impulses have to be handled.
