MCap ZN

MCap ZN

The MCap ZN is a metal-foil signal capacitor with tin foil as the electrode and polypropylene as the dielectric. It combines the electrical authority of a solid metal foil – very high conductivity and stable parameters even under pulse load – with the neutral, fast foundation of polypropylene. The result is a capacitor that transfers energy very directly while inherently operating with greater mechanical calm, because the solid electrode additionally stabilizes the winding.

Technical Characteristics

Electrical characteristics

Solid tin foil as the electrode (metal foil instead of metallization)

The tin foil forms a continuous, highly conductive electrode. This significantly lowers the electrode resistance, reduces voltage drops along the electrode, and keeps the capacitor stable and reproducible even at high current peaks.

Polypropylene dielectric

Polypropylene offers low losses, low dielectric absorption and high dielectric strength. This reduces recharge effects, supports fast transients and provides a neutral, virtually distortion-free foundation for signal transmission.

Minimal tolerances

Tight selection enables exact pairing, stable crossover frequencies and very precise, reproducible spatial imaging.

Macro-microphony

Mechanically stable winding thanks to the solid metal foil

The higher mass and stiffness of the metal foil increase the mechanical stability of the winding. Field-force-induced movements are reduced, resonance tendencies decrease, and macro-microphonic effects become less apparent – especially under high pulse load.

Micro-microphony

Metallurgy of the tin foil

The tin foil shapes the micro-microphonic behavior through its metal structure and interfaces. The goal is calm, stable signal transmission without restless modulation within the electrode – with clean texture and an orderly, unobtrusive background.

Sonic Character

The MCap ZN sounds direct, controlled and commanding. Impulses arrive with palpable authority, yet without harshness; the lower midrange has substance and control, and the reproduction remains stable even at high levels and dynamics. The combination of polypropylene neutrality and the robust metal-foil electrode creates a calm, orderly sonic picture in which details never seem “pasted on” but emerge naturally from a stable background. Overall, the MCap ZN conveys a natural, powerful clarity – with the sense that the system never loses its footing, even in demanding passages.

Typical Applications

The MCap ZN is particularly recommended for:

  • Series positions relevant to the midrange and bass/lower midrange in high-quality crossovers, where control and authority are required
  • Signal paths with high pulse currents or high dynamic load, where robust, load-stable energy transfer is crucial
  • Parallel components in high-end projects from bass to midrange, when additional mechanical quietness and a stable, clean background are desired
  • Applications seeking a direct, controlled sonic foundation without tipping toward harshness or nervousness
