In-house diaphragm: stability, internal damping, very low distortion

All our AMT diaphragms are produced in-house in a manufacturing process we developed ourselves, unique in this form. The material blend of the diaphragm base material is consistently optimized to achieve the desired acoustic properties.

The diaphragm geometry is based on a well-founded understanding of the physical working principle of an AMT diaphragm. Only in this way can the central balance be achieved: low moving mass, high flexibility, high internal damping and, at the same time, maximum stability.

The result of this development is a diaphragm distinguished by exceptionally high internal damping and thus by extremely low distortion – especially in the odd-order harmonic distortion components K3 and K5. It is precisely these distortion components that determine whether treble reproduction remains relaxed and natural even at higher volumes.

Composed at high levels – refined in the details

Embedded in an overall concept optimized in many respects, the U series can do both: high levels and the finest dynamic nuances at very low distortion. Even at high volume, the reproduction never becomes “obtrusive” but stays controlled, transparent and musical.

A key reason lies in the AMT geometry itself: due to the folding, the effectively working diaphragm area is larger than the area of the sound outlet. This allows the AMT to deliver high levels with ease – with comparatively small diaphragm excursion. Especially at lower crossover frequencies, this composure is additionally supported by our damped diaphragm technology.

Powerful drive: neodymium N50 for control and sensitivity

The very stable diaphragm requires a correspondingly strong magnetic drive. This is why the U series generally relies on neodymium N50. This ensures not only high sensitivity but, above all, very tight control of the diaphragm motion. This control further reduces distortion and keeps the reproduction clean and stable even at high levels.

Designs and installation: compact, low stray field, versatile

The U series is structurally designed for compact installation situations and exhibits very neutral magnetic behavior towards the outside. This makes it particularly suitable for car HiFi, but equally for home and studio concepts in which installation space, cabinet shape or design plays a central role. The large models are also suitable for home-cinema applications.

Also important in practice is the execution of the mounting flange: alongside classic front plates there are particularly compact variants without a wide mounting flange, which lend themselves superbly to tight installation situations – in the car as well as in loudspeaker designs where a slim front or a reduced look is desired.

Guidance for selection: geometry determines directivity

The U series makes the choice easy: diaphragm height and diaphragm width largely determine the dispersion behavior. The taller the diaphragm, the more strongly the AMT focuses vertically; the wider the diaphragm, the stronger the horizontal directivity. In the U series, the diaphragm height in millimeters is part of the article designation.
