MPSA pads and silicone floor pad

Depending on the series, we use two proven solutions for mechanically fixing our power supply capacitors. The MLytic AudioGrade and MLytic HV (especially the snap-in variants) use MPSA mounting pads. The solution is different with HC capacitors: There, the base plate is provided with a self-adhesive, thermally conductive silicone pad. Both approaches have the same purpose: The condenser is firmly glued, securely fixed and the Macro-Microphony is dampened.

Electrotechnical properties

The pads don't change ESR and ESL directly. Their benefits arise indirectly from the mechanically more stable structure:

  • The component position remains defined, even when there is vibration and service load.
  • Connections and contact points are less stressed by tensile and shear forces.
  • In HC capacitors, the thermally conductive silicone pad also supports heat dissipation via the base plate.

Macro Microphony (main benefits)

We understand macro microphony as a significant mechanical movement of condenser and winding structure, which can build up under transformer excitation, housing vibrations or load pulses.

  • MPSA pads (MLytic AudioGrade/MLytic HV Snap-in): ensure secure fixation and dampen vibrations.
  • Thermally conductive silicone floor pad (HC): reliably fixes the condenser, attenuates Macro-Microphony and at the same time supports heat removal.

The defined fixation reduces the probability that mechanical stimuli will be felt as “pumping” the supply.

Sound character

In playback, this is shown above all as more silence and stability under mechanical stimulation: The sound image remains more confident in terms of level and dynamics, because the supply is less prone to macro-microphonic modulation.

Typical uses

  • MLytic AudioGrade/MLytic HV (Snap-in): MPSA pads for fixation and damping
  • HC capacitors: self-adhesive, thermally conductive silicone pad on the base plate with the same fixing and damping effect
