H-Core

In crossovers, the DC resistance RDC of a coil directly determines control, efficiency and dynamics, particularly in bass and root tone. The H-Core is a very efficient design for this: Its relatively closed magnetic circuit increases magnetic effectiveness, so that fewer windings and less copper are required for the same inductance.

In a compact design, this enables particularly low RDC values, which means that the signal appears less “braked” and the bass appears tighter and more controlled. At the same time, the design remains very space-saving and easy to integrate.

The price of this efficiency is the saturation margin: Compared to the P-Core, the H-Core reaches the saturation limit earlier at very high currents. The design must therefore take the real loads into account in order for the inductance to remain stable under load and the filter effect does not tip over.

When correctly sized, the H-Core works cleanly and delivers a very direct, precise reproduction. This design is particularly effective in applications where space is limited or minimal DC resistance is crucial. By selecting the appropriate core material, the focus can be shifted further: Ferrite for precise small signal work, Aronit for greater stability under load.

Core-related effects are also effective directly on the loudspeaker in parallel branches and correction elements, which is why the stable design of the H-Core remains relevant in terms of sound.

In short: The H-core is the design for maximum efficiency and low RDC — with a saturation reserve that must be consciously taken into account.

  • Relatively closed magnetic circuit → high efficiency
  • Less copper for the same inductance → very low RDC possible
  • Compact, integratable design, particularly strong when space is limited
  • Earlier in saturation than P-Core → Design for real currents is decisive
  • Available with ferrite or aronite (depending on the goal: precision vs. current resistance)
