Copper-Nickel alloy
The conductor material plays a decisive role in wire-wound audio resistors. Copper-nickel alloys (CuNi) have long been established as stable resistance materials and are used in high-quality performance and precision applications. The nickel content gives the material defined electrical properties, good corrosion resistance and increased thermal stability.
A key advantage in the audio sector lies in the mechanical behavior of the metal lattice. Compared to oxidic layer systems, a copper-nickel alloy is less brittle and reacts in a more mechanically controlled manner to vibrational stimuli. This reduces micro-microphone effects.
Under music load, which involves both thermal and mechanical stress, the electrical behavior of the alloy remains stable. The temperature coefficient is typically lower than many standard metal oxide resistors, which reduces drift under load.
